Seit 1981 leitet der Regisseur Michael Laub das schwedische Ensemble "Remote Control". Seine Zusammenarbeit mit Marina Abramovic reicht bis in die 80er Jahre zurück. Für Laubs Inszenierungen "Planet Lulu" und "Frankula" entwarf Abramovic die Bühnenräume.
Ihre nächste Zusammenarbeit ist für 2001 geplant: Das Theater- und Installationsprojekt "Total Masala Slammer" entsteht in den indischen Bollywood-Studios und in Rotterdam in Koproduktion mit dem Hebbel-Theater.

Since 1981, the director Michael Laub has headed the Swedish theater company "Remote Control". His collaboration with Marina Abramovic goes back the 1980's. Abramovic designed the set for Laub's productions of "Planet Lulu" and "Frankula".
Their next collaboration is planned for 2001: a theater and installation project called "Total Masala Slammer" which is being developed in the Indian Bollywood Studios and in Rotterdam in co-production with the Hebbel-Theater.

Die Ausstellung des eigenen Körpers bis an die Grenzen seiner Belastbarkeit - das ist das Material der Performance- Künstlerin Marina Abramovic, die mit ihren herausfordernden Arbeiten die internationale Kunstszene immer wieder in Atem hält. Mit "Biography" entwickelte sie erstmals eine Performance für einen klassischen Bühnenraum.

Marina Abramovic: "Nach 20jähriger Arbeit als Künstlerin verspüre ich zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt meines Lebens die Notwendigkeit, mein Leben und meine Arbeit in einem autobiographischen Rahmen zu präsentieren. Ich entschied, verschiedene Ereignisse vom Augenblick meiner Geburt bis zum heutigen Tag chronologisch darzustellen. Ich stelle mir dieses Stück als eine Mischung von Performance und Theater vor. Der Titel ist nicht "Autobiography", er heißt "Biography". Der Grund dafür ist, daß ich etwas Distanz zu mir halten möchte, um mich selbst zu spielen."

The exhibition of one's own body streched out to the limits of its capacity is the material of the performance artist Marina Abramovic, who has consistently kept the international art scene in suspense with her challenging work. With "Biography", she has developed a performance for a classical stage for the first time.

Marina Abramovic: "After twenty years of working as an artist, I sense the need at this point in my life to present my life and my work within an autobiographical framework. I decided to show various events chronologically, from the moment of my birth up to the present. I imagine this piece as a mixture of performance and theater. The title is not "Autobiography", it is "Biography". The reason for this is that I wanted to have some distance from myself in order to play myself."
