Michael Laub's works are influenced by the cinematic structure of our perception, which has been fragmented and directed in today's media-society by an insurmountable wealth of impressions and images. Laub's productions consist of scraps from splatter, horror and porno films, citations from pop culture, cinemascope music and narratives about the making of plays which are never produced. Instead, the audience experiences small backstage dramas on the open stage, in which autobiographical details of the performers are inextricably mixed with fictional situations.
Laub's theater plays with the conventions of theatrical representation. He continually draws the rehearsal process into his productions and places his performers in real danger on stage, thus moving beyond the "as-if" of the theater situation, until art and life permeate one another. In doing so, Laub is less interested in trained actors than in forceful personalities who influence the atmosphere of his pieces.

Michael Laubs Arbeiten sind geprägt von der filmischen Struktur unserer Wahrnehmung, die in unserer Mediengesellschaft durch eine unüberbrückbare Fülle von Eindrücken und Bildern fragmentiert und geleitet wird. Seine Produktionen bestehen aus Splatter-, Horror- und Pornoschnipseln, Zitaten aus der Popkultur, Cinemascope-Musik und Erzählungen über das Machen von Stücken, die jedoch nie inszeniert werden. Stattdessen erlebt das Publikum kleine Backstage-Dramen auf offener Bühne, in denen sich autobiographische Details der Darsteller unentwirrbar mit fiktiven Situationen vermischen.
Laubs Theater ist ein Spiel mit den Konventionen theatraler Repräsentation. Stets bezieht er den Probenprozeß in seine Aufführungen ein und setzt seine Darsteller auf der Bühne realen Gefahren aus, die das "Als-Ob" der Theatersituation hintergehen bis Leben und Kunst füreinander durchlässig werden. Dabei interessiert er sich weniger für ausgebildete Schauspieler als für ausgeprägte Persönlichkeiten, die die Atmosphäre seiner Stücke prägen.
